Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition is a port of Minecraft for New Nintendo 3DS units. It was co-developed by Mojang Studios and Other Ocean Interactive, with the former also publishing the game. The game was first released as a Nintendo eShop-exclusive, in North America and Japan on September 13, 2017,[1] just hours after its announcement during a Nintendo Direct, and then in Europe and Australia just over a year later, on September 20, 2018. Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition received a physical release exclusively in North America in November 2017.

The initial release was forked from Minecraft: Pocket Edition alpha 0.15.4,[1] but with several additions and other differences. Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition does not feature online multiplayer, likely due to hardware limitations, although local multiplayer was added in the 1.4 update.

Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition received its final update, version 1.9.19, on January 15, 2019, nearly a year and a half after the game's initial release. As such, Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition is one of the shortest-lived versions of Minecraft.

Trivia Edit

  • This is the only edition of Minecraft to not have the splash text slanted and above the logo on the title screen.
  • Due to the New Nintendo 3DS's memory limitations, the render distance is set to 6 chunks of view distance and cannot be changed.
  • Although the update released in 2018, it never received the Update Aquatic unlike the other versions.
