Puzzle Swap is one of the games featured on StreetPass Mii Plaza. It has been available since the Nintendo 3DS's first launch in 2011.
History[edit]
On April 21, 2012, an update was pushed that opened a puzzle for Mario Tennis Open and Fire Emblem Awakening.
As of August 2012, several more puzzles have been released into the public to coincide with the release of other games, such as Kirby's 20th Anniversary and New Super Mario Bros. 2. The same month, a McDonald's Puzzle was given to Nintendo 3DS owners who visited a McDonald's in Japan for a limited time; it is the first puzzle that is not related to a Nintendo game. There was also a puzzle released in Japan called ANAでDS that was released at three airports in Japan.
On December 18, 2013, Satoru Iwata announced a puzzle for Monster Hunter 4, making it the first third-party puzzle for Puzzle Swap.

Gameplay[edit]
Puzzle Swap features various different puzzles, known as panels, that the player can complete. Players are given one piece to start off with, and more can be obtained by tagging people via StreetPass. After StreetPassing with someone, the player is then entitled to take a puzzle piece from them (and vice versa) to add to their collection. If another player does not have any new pieces, the player gets nothing. Players can also spend two Play Coins to buy a random piece that adds to one of their incomplete puzzles. Sometimes they are given a duplicate piece, which becomes increasingly likely as the puzzle is filled in, and also results in the player getting nothing. Once a puzzle is completed, the player can view a three-dimensional image of the puzzle.
While the initial puzzles consist of 15 pieces, the December 2011 update included several puzzles with either 24 or 40 pieces and the ability to receive new puzzles through SpotPass. Additionally, the four center-most pieces in the 24-piece puzzles and the eight center-most pieces in the 40-piece puzzles are pink. These pink pieces cannot be purchased with Play Coins, and can only be obtained by StreetPassing other people who have obtained them. If a new user starts playing Puzzle Swap after this update, they can receive a pink puzzle piece as their first piece.
