Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Edit

Template:Quote2 Alph makes his Super Smash Bros. debut as a playable character accessible via Captain Olimar's alternate costumes in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Just like Olimar, Alph is drastically scaled for his appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series, as he is only about an inch tall in the Pikmin series.

As an alternate costume, his attacks and statistics are identical to Olimar's with any and all changes merely being cosmetic. As with other alternative costumes, the game does not acknowledge him as a separate character from Olimar in battle records and miscellaneous aspects, such as Classic Mode. The exception to this is the announcer, crowd, and character selection, all of whom say and/or display his own name. He shares this trait with the Koopalings—the alternate costumes of Bowser Jr.—who are also named, but not acknowledged as separate characters. In All-Star mode, Alph can also appear in place of Olimar, and in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, he can be faced as an opponent in rounds 4 and 5 of Classic Mode.

In both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, there is an unlockable trophy of Alph that can be purchased from the Trophy Shop after clearing Classic with Olimar. In the latter game, it costs 1000G.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Edit

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Alph returns as a playable character accessible via Olimar's alternate costumes. Unlike in the previous game, Alph is an 'unlockable' character. Once again, his attacks and statistics are identical to Olimar's and (with the exception of the announcer, crowd, and character selection, all of which say and/or display his own name) the game does not acknowledge him as a separate character from Olimar in battle records and other miscellaneous aspects, such as Classic Mode.

Alph's Classic Mode route is nearly the same as Olimar's except round 6 features a battle against Olimar instead of Alph like in Olimar's Classic Mode route.

Trivia Edit

  • According to design documents, at one point during development of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Alph was being considered as being a full separate playable character; he would have been a clone of Olimar, except with the addition of utilizing Rock Pikmin.[1]
  • Alph is the only playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U who made his debut on the Wii U console.
