The Classic Controller is an extension or accessory for the Wii Remote. It was released on the same day as the Wii. Besides the two analog sticks, the button layout resembles that of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System's controller. The Classic Controller is compatible with any Virtual Console game, and was specifically designed to play them. Certain Wii titles such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii are also compatible with the Classic Controller. In 2009, an updated version was released, the Classic Controller Pro.

In Japan, it had an MSRP of ¥1,800, in the United States it was $19.99, and in Europe it was £14.
