The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is the sixth installment of The Legend of Zelda series. It was originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000. It follows directly after the events of the series' previous installment The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Story[edit]

In the beginning of the game, Link is seen riding in an unknown forest with his horse, Epona. While riding through the forest, Link encounters the Skull Kid with the Majora's Mask with two fairies: a male one named Tael and a female one named Tatl. The Skull Kid ambushes Link, turns him into a Deku Scrub, scares off Epona, and steals the Ocarina of Time. The Skull Kid leaves with Tael leaving Tatl behind. Tatl decides to team up with Young Link until she finds her brother. As the story progresses, they are in a place called Clock Town and Young Link and Tatl meet up with a mask seller named the Happy Mask Salesman who claims the Skull Kid he just saw stole the Majora's Mask and reveals he used his power to turn Young Link into a Deku Scrub. The Mask keeper promises to turn Link back into a human if he gets the Majora's Mask back. Link must explore the world of Termina with his fairy Tatl before the Moon falls in three days.

The game features a 3-day life cycle in which the game game must be completed within 72 hours (with one hour being measured by about one minute in real life) before the Moon falls crashes into Termina. To go back in time, Link must use the Ocarina of Time and play the song, Song of Time, but can only rewind back to the first day. In doing so, Link loses all of his Rupees and pick-up items but not his major items. If the game reaches 72 hours, it is a Game Over.

References in the Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the game's main antagonist and namesake, Majora's Mask, appears as a trophy and a stage for Trophy Tussle 3.
  • The Termina Field soundtrack is featured in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where it can be found in the stage Pirate Ship.
  • The Bunny Hood is featured as an item in every Super Smash Bros. title since Super Smash Bros. Melee. It retains the same effect of causing the character to move faster and jump higher.
