In 2015, VS. Excitebike was released for the Wii U's Virtual Console. It first released in North America on August 31, 2015 and then in Japan on September 16, 2015.

On September 21, 2018, VS. Excitebike was released on the Nintendo Switch's eShop by Hamster Corporation as part of the Arcade Archives series. In 2019, the Famicom Disk System release was ported to Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online.

Gameplay Edit

VS. Excitebike is similar to the original version, although it does not have the Design option. The main game has three difficulty levels (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced), and the levels are arranged in a different setup: there are seven tracks that must be played twice, the first time as a challenge race, and the second time as an Excitebike race. The main race mode features CPU bikers as obstacles, although they are absent from Challenge mode. If the racer finishes lower than 3rd place, the game is over.

Famicom Disk System version Edit

The Famicom Disk System release has a few notable differences, such as an entirely different soundtrack. It also has three modes:

  • Original Excite: This is based on the arcade version's main mode. After the third track is a bonus stage, where the racer must launch themselves over a series of stacked trucks.
  • VS Excite: A two player competitive mode where players can race on tracks. Options include the number of rounds, the track (including custom ones), and the number of laps.
  • VS Edit: The player can construct their own track, race on it, and save it to one of four available custom track slots on the disk.
